Lore & Background

Korhal is home to Augustgrad, the Dominion capital city. During the events leading up to Legacy of the Void, Raynor was held prisoner on Korhal to keep Kerrigan in line after he was allegedly executed by Dominion forces. Later, Kerrigan and Raynor stormed Augustgrad to confront Mengsk inside his Palace. The confrontation ended when Kerrigan, with James Raynor's help, impaled Arcturus Mengsk with a psionic spike, killing him. Following this victory, the planet became the capital of a reformed Dominion under Emperor Valerian. It was from Korhal that the combined forces of Terrans, Zerg, and Protoss prepared for the defense against Amon.

In Their Own Story

The narrative on Korhal reached its climax when Kerrigan and Raynor's Raiders invaded Augustgrad to end Arcturus Mengsk's rule. She killed Arcturus by overloading his body with psychic energy, causing him to explode spectacularly. After this event, Raynor was freed from prison on Korhal to assist in the defense of the planet. In Legacy of the Void, the planet served as the staging ground where Raynor and his Raiders, now integrated into the Dominion military under Valerian, joined Artanis and his Protoss forces. Together they defended Korhal from an attack by Amon before joining Kerrigan for the final assault on the Void.
