The Void

A dark dimension where psionic power reigns and ancient evils slumber.

The Void is a metaphysical dimension existing beyond the boundaries of normal space-time within the StarCraft universe. Unlike physical planets, it serves as a spiritual and dimensional plane where psionic energy flows unfiltered. It plays a critical role in Protoss theology, acting as both a sanctuary for the Dark Templar and a prison for the fallen god Amon.

Lore & Background

During the events of the Legacy campaign, the Void became a focal point for the survival of all life. The Protoss sought to harness its energies to defeat Amon, while the Zerg Swarm was drawn into it as part of their evolution under the influence of the Xel'Naga. Accessing this plane requires immense mental discipline; without proper shielding or training, any traveler risks having their mind consumed by the raw psionic radiation that permeates the space.

In Their Own Story

The air did not smell like ozone here; it tasted like static and old blood. A Dark Templar warrior knelt before a shimmering rift, his shadow detached from the ground, writhing independently in the darkness. He could feel them—the whispers of things that had no names, pressing against the barrier of his will. Behind him, the physical universe faded into silence. Ahead lay only the Void, where time bled like water and gods slept waiting to wake.

Reader's Guide

The geography of the Void is non-Euclidean, defying standard navigation tools used by Terran or Zerg fleets. Distances shift based on psionic resonance rather than physical coordinates, making traditional travel impossible without a guide. Strategically, this dimension serves as the primary hiding ground for the Xel'Naga and the source of power for the Dark Templar. However, it is also the domain where the fallen god Amon plots his return against the galaxy. Occupation history is sparse due to its intangible nature, though ancient Protoss temples occasionally anchor into this realm to draw energy. Environmental hazards are severe; unprotected minds suffer immediate corruption or madness from exposure to raw psionic energy. The Void constantly bleeds dark energy into physical space through rifts, threatening nearby star systems with mutation or corruption. Military forces cannot invade the Void directly; only psionic entities can traverse it safely.
