Stukov
The UED Vice-Admiral who suspected the depth of the Zerg alliance before it was too late.
Alexei Stukov serves as the Vice-Admiral of the United Earth Directorate (UED) expeditionary force sent to the Koprulu Sector. Tasked with securing the region and preventing alien threats from reaching Earth, he operates alongside Fleet Admiral Gerard DuGalle. Unlike his superior, Stukov demonstrates a willingness to adapt to local conditions, notably conscripting the mysterious psionic agent Samir Duran as a special advisor during their initial incursions against the Terran Dominion.

Lore & Background
Stukov's role in Brood War centers on the UED's campaign to overthrow Emperor Arcturus Mengsk and control the new Overmind growing on Char. After discovering a psi disrupter capable of cutting Zerg communications, he correctly deduced that Duran was manipulating events to undermine the UED. When Duran allowed Zerg forces to interfere with an assault on Aiur, Stukov realized the Zerg were allied with Mengsk and the Protoss against the invaders. Acting on this intelligence, Stukov took a contingent of troops to Braxis to reconstruct the psi disrupter, operating independently when Admiral DuGalle became convinced he was a traitor.
In Their Own Story
The turning point occurred after Duran inexplicably moved his forces out of position during the UED assault on Aiur. While DuGalle remained unaware, Stukov recognized that the Zerg attack and Duran's actions were too coincidental to be accidental; he understood that Duran had been working to undermine the UED from within. To secure the psi disrupter, Stukov left his post, leading to a confrontation where Duran hunted him down inside the device. Before dying in the encounter, Stukov revealed the truth about Duran's betrayal to DuGalle. This revelation came too late to save Stukov's life but provided the critical intelligence needed for the UED to eventually assault Char and take control of the new Overmind.
Reader's Guide
Stukov is a pivotal figure in the second episode of Brood War, representing the internal conflict within the UED command structure. His arc moves from a loyal officer following DuGalle's orders to an independent operator who identifies the true enemy when his commander cannot. Key moments include conscripting Samir Duran against protocol, realizing the extent of the Zerg-Dominion-Protoss alliance after the Aiur incident, and making the strategic decision to reconstruct the psi disrupter on Braxis despite being labeled a traitor by DuGalle. His death inside the psi disrupter while exposing Duran's treachery serves as the catalyst for the UED's final push against the Zerg on Char.
